Season 27 Tasman Series Report - Round 1 Levin NZ The opening race of season 27 was held on the North Island of New Zealand at the Levin under blue skies. At the end of the qualifying session Leon following his dominance of the earlier practice sessions claimed pole with a lap record 44.161 in the Ferrari 246 Dino, Craig L lined up in P2 setting a pb in the Lotus 33 Climax just a tenth behind Leon. John LeMasurier showed good speed in his first series start to slot his Brabham BRM powered BT11 into P3, Göran lined up in P4 in a sister chassis. Craig Burns in his return to competition recorded 5th fastest time in a Climax powered BT11, Matt Judson rounded out the top 6 in a BRM P261 just over a second off the pole time. A total of 12 drivers qualified for the race, with several notable no shows from those expected in the entrants list.

It's Official - Season 27 will start Sunday 15th 2012 - First track will be Levin. Check out the Season 27 Race regulations as some restriction have been put in place for the 66 Carset Mod.

As always, Practice will be held Thursday nights from approx 8pm (EADT +11 GMT)

The final race of the 2011 season was held as part of the grand opening of a new facility at Surfers Paradise situated to the south of Brisbane. The event attracted a smaller field than anticipated with several of the invitees unable to attend due to commitments in Europe. A small field of local drivers never the less took the opportunity to gain some time to test and tune with the upcoming Tasman series in view. There was one international driver attending with Roberto Vianna able to make the race, although he was unable to show his true potential as his Brabham suffered a variety of problems through out the event, he did enjoy the splendid sunny days on offer though. The warm up event showed plenty of promise and the locals are looking forward to the return when the stars of the Tasman series will be on track.

At the end of the qualifying period New South Wales driver Craig Larkin had claimed pole with a quick 1:10.473 in the Lotus 33, the only driver to break the 1:10 barrier. Local driver David French...

The final race of season 26 was contested at the Suzuka circuit in Japan after the earlier practice sessions were held under clear skies, when qualifying started cloud cover had moved in and track temperatures had fallen significantly. At the end of the qualifying session Craig had once again claimed pole this time however aboard the Mirage with a 2:19.130 second lap, Leon put in his best qualifying effort of the season to claim P2 in the Ferrari, with Mike just 8 hundredths slower in the Lola his qualifying session dominated by the Lola's unwillingness to run on all 8 cylinders, more speed was promised for the race. Göran also put in one of his best results for the season slotting the Chaparral 2D into P4 just 5 tenths off Leons time. David and Matt shared the third row of the grid with just a tenth between them, Matt posting his time on the final lap of the session, Simon, Shawn, Sean in his first race of the season, and Rolf rounded out the field.

Race 9 of season 26 saw the teams lined up in the dusty paddock at Willow Springs International Raceway a challenging circuit with some deceptive corners that claimed for than a few victims over the weekend. After the 40 minute qualifying session Craig had claimed his 8th pole of the season the Chaparral 2F once again showing its dominance chassis wise over the other teams with a 1:20.320. Mike was alongside in the Lola after a reduced qualifying session only able to complete 5 laps in the Lola, David put in another strong qualifying effort just 2 tenths behind Mike in the Ferrari to take P3, Leon was a further .5 of second further back in P4. Göran slotted the Chaparral 2D into P5 the last of the runners in the 1:22s with Dan alongside in the Ferrari in P6. Matt in the Chaparral, Simon Porsche, Stefan Lola, Shawn Ferrari, and Rolf Chaparral 2D rounded out the field.

Round 8 of Season 26 was held at the Lime Rock Mountain Circuit at the end of the 40 minute qualifying session it was a familiar situation with Craig once again on pole with a 1:40.761 second lap, Dan lined up in P2, with Tim and Mike in P3 & P4 in their Lola's, David put in a strong qualifying effort to take P5, with Matt alongside in P6, .6 of a second covering 2nd to 6th, at total of 12 drivers posting a time. Craig made a good start at the drop of the green flag, but Dan was away quickly in the Ferrari to draw alongside and challenge into Vaill's Bend, Craig held sway on the inside to lead the field up to Beagles Nest. Mike after a good start found himself with no steering once he arrived at Vaill's bend, it took a couple of laps before he resolve the issue and rejoin the circuit. The first circuit was completed without further incident with Craig leading the way followed closely by Dan and Tim, lap 2 saw Davids good qualifying effort come to naught when he spun the Ferrari at Hine Hairpin, he rejoined at the tail of the field. A great battle was developing between Dan and Tim both evenly matched for pace and showing the relative strengths and weaknesses of each chassis as they lapped the circuit. Lap 5 saw Göran overcook it into Klee Kurve and drop one position to 9th with Rolf moving past as he rejoined. On lap 6 a tank slapper by Dan as he exited Klee Kurve allowed Tim to move past into second, Göran recovered the position that he had lost earlier when Rolf got out of shape at Schofields, Stefan also had a moment at Klee Kurve but was able to resume still in 7th. Lap 7 saw Shawn move to 9th when Rolf spun the chaparral 2D exiting Vaill's Bend, Shawn was enjoying a good battle with Mike who now with steering was setting solid times abit a lap down.

Round 7 of season 26 was held at the picturesque Jops Siffert circuit a total of 12 drivers participated in qualifying and at the end of the session Craig once again topped the charts with a 1:26.874 lap. Tim lined up in P2 just over a second slower, with Ron and Dan on the second row, Mike and Matt on the third row, Göran, Simon, Pete and Marty rounded out the top 10, 7 seconds covering the field. This proved to be an action packed event with most drivers finding and exceeding the limits at one point or another. At the green flag Craig made a good jump to lead the field to Toulo however he ran wide on exit and allowed Tim to range up alongside into Reggazzoni and take the lead. Dan and Craig then made contact as they tried to negotiate Reggazzoni side by side with Craig spining in the process, this compressed the field behind with Marty and Simon making contact as a result. Round 6 of Season 26 was held at the historic Circuit de Montagne d'Auvergene at Clermont Ferrand. At the end of the 40 minute qualifying session Craig had claimed his 5th pole of the season with a 3:19.825 second lap, Ron lined up in P2 with a 3:22.641 in the Ferrari. Tim was on the second row in the Lola with Simon lined up alongside in the Porsche the twisty circuit favouring the superior handling of the Porsche. Daniel made a return to the championship and qualified in P5 with Göran also putting in a good qualifying lap to take p6. Stefan Lola, Shawn Ferrari, Matt Chaparral 2F, Mike Lola, Rolf Chaparral 2D, and Pete Ferrari rounded out the field.

 

At the green flag Craig made a good start to lead the field into the first turn, the field set off up to Courbe de Manson without incident however under brakes at the end of the straight Tim and Dan made contact as they entered the turn, with Tim spinning to the outside. This caused chaos as those behind them attempted to find an open line to avoid the carnage. The person to gain the most from this was Mike who having started 9th found himself now in 4th and Pete who found himself in 6th. Ron stayed in touch with Craig for most of the first lap, with Simon not far behind in third. Lap 2 saw the first casualty of the race with Matt coming unstuck in a big way after clipping the bridge at Carrefour de Champeaux , he was Ok but the same couldn't be said for the Chaparral which was destroyed. On lap 4 Ron spun at Virage de la Ferme when he dropped the right rear off into the dirt, he spun without hitting anything and rejoined in P4 just behind Simon and Mike. Dan was another to come to grief in this spot again he was able to continue without hitting anything but with Pete now close behind, a couple of seconds further back Göran and Stefan were also battling for 8th and 9th....

Round 5 saw competitors lined up in the paddock at Zeltweg, qualifying was reduced in duration due to some technical issues with the circuit timing equipment. At the end of the 20 minute session it was a familiar scenario to find Craig's Chaparral 2F on pole with a quick 1:45.527, Ron lined up in P2 in the Ferrari with Mike and Tim filling out the second row in their Lola's. Göran and Matt lined up on the third row in their Chaparral 2D and 2F respectively, Simon and Pete were on the fourth row and Shawn and David rounded out the top 10.

At the green flag Ron made a strong start and had the inside line for Hella Kurve the field negotiated the first lap without incident Simon, Shawn and Stefan all gaining one position to run 6th, 8th, and 10th respectively. At the start of Lap 2 Craig used a good exit from the final turn to claim the inside running and move back past Ron as they braked for Hella Kurve. Round 4 of Season 26 was held at the Jerez circuit in the province of Cádiz in the southwest of Spain, qualifying was held under warm and sunny conditions at the end of the session Craig had claimed his 3rd pole of the season with a 1:55.261 in the Chaparral Mk2F, Ron lined up in P2 in the Ferrari 330 P4 despite having some issues during qualifying. Tim and Mike made it an all Lola 2nd row, Göran had the Chapparal Mk2D in P5 and Simon put in a great lap to line the Porsche up in P6, Matt, Stefan, Rolf, and Shawn rounded out the field.

At the drop of the green flag Craig made a good start  to lead the field into T1 the field made its way through unscathed until T2 where Rolf and Matt made slight contact with Matt spearing off into the gravel trap and rejoining the circuit well behind the field.  first and from there the superior pace of the Chaparral allowed him to motor off into the distance.
